Teaching Academic Vocabulary Effectively, Parts I-III series

Are you looking to boost your students’ academic vocabulary knowledge, critical thinking and standardized testing comprehension? The Teaching Academic Vocabulary Effectively series provides your students with extensive and explicit instruction in common, though rarely defined, academic terms used across all content areas. Each book contains a nine-week curriculum focused on 72 high utility words such as: analyze, determine, establish, sufficient and acquire. Students will master 8 words each week by engaging in a variety of proven strategies that range in difficulty level, from extremely ‘scaffolded’ to the more complex critical thinking activities that engage all abilities. The teaching of these valuable words in the manner provided, will increase content literacy and help students develop the 21st century skills they need for success. You may use one book per year or all three; each book is appropriate for grades 6-11.
